OSIU2024 is a forum designed for the presentation and discussion of works related to fundamental and specific aspects of open science and innovation. This forum addresses issues ranging from the formulation and implementation of policies, infrastructure, and service provision for the practical realization of open science and innovation to the creation and support of the human factor to ensure its long-term development.
About conference
The State Scientific and Technical Library of Ukraine, in collaboration with TIB - Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology University Library, and with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, invites you to participate in the Third International Conference "Open Science and Innovation in Ukraine 2024," which will be held online on October 24-25, 2024. The event will take place as part of the International Open Access Week 2024 (hhttps://www.openaccessweek.org/theme/uk).
The aim of the Third International Conference "Open Science and Innovation in Ukraine 2024" is to discuss the practical aspects of implementing the principles of open science and innovation in Ukraine. The conference focuses on finding solutions to pressing issues such as uninterrupted access to research infrastructure, open access to research results, the necessity of reforming the research evaluation system, and accelerating the integration of Ukrainian science into the European Research Area by aligning with European Union policies on open science and data exchange formats. Through these discussions, participants will be able to share perspectives and gain insights into the development of open science and innovation in Ukraine. The event serves as an open platform for the exchange of experiences, ideas, and knowledge.

As part of the German Year of Science 2024, an online discussion will be held on Ukrainian and German perspectives on academic freedom and the development of scientific dialogue between the academic systems of the two countries. The panelists will discuss how academic freedom is understood in different cultural and historical contexts, and explore its importance for science in different academic systems.
Key questions for discussion include:
- How do culture and history influence the understanding of academic freedom?
- What factors limit the freedom of researchers?
- How does research funding affect academic freedom?
- Is there a balance between open science and academic freedom?
The discussion will provide an opportunity for international exchange of experience, cooperation, and understanding of how academic freedom is realized in different countries.
- Building an innovation ecosystem, supporting and financing science-based startups, successful stories of Ukrainian startups;
- Collaboration between higher education institutions, research institutions, and industry, developing innovative infrastructure, forming networks of mentors and experts;
- Strategies for implementing and promoting innovative products in the market, developing business models for innovative enterprises, creating favorable conditions for successful commercialization of innovations;
- Innovations as the basis for economic development of the country: innovations in social entrepreneurship, technologies for sustainable development, innovative projects to improve quality of life;
- Global trends and international cooperation: Ukraine's participation in global innovation projects and initiatives, sharing experiences with other countries, cooperation with international organizations;
- COST program – new opportunities for researchers and innovators in Ukraine;
